URL
The web address of a page - like your street address online.
The Tradie Take
Your URL is your workshop's street address. "123 Smith Street, Bondi" tells the delivery driver exactly where to go. "Lot 47, behind the servo" is confusing. The same goes for URLs - "yoursite.com.au/roof-repair" tells Google and visitors exactly what that page is about. "yoursite.com.au/p=8472" tells them nothing.
Definition
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator - it's the address you type into a browser to visit a specific page. Good URLs are short, descriptive, and include relevant keywords. For example, "tradeads.com.au/services/emergency-plumbing" is a good URL. "tradeads.com.au/page-1?cat=3&id=8472" is not. Clean URLs help users and Google understand what the page is about.
How It Works
- 1 Every page on your website has a unique URL
- 2 URLs should be readable and descriptive: /emergency-plumber-brighton not /page-473
- 3 Google uses URL structure as a minor ranking signal
- 4 Hyphens (-) are preferred over underscores (_) for separating words
Tips for Tradies
- Keep URLs short and descriptive: /emergency-electrician not /services/electrical/emergency-callouts/after-hours
- Use hyphens between words, not underscores or spaces
- Don't change URLs after publishing unless you set up redirects
