Engagement
Likes, comments, shares, and saves - signs people are paying attention.
The Tradie Take
Engagement is the difference between telling a joke to an empty room and telling one where people laugh, share it with their mates, and ask for another. The algorithm is the pub manager - if people are having a good time in your corner, they'll move more people over there.
Definition
Engagement measures how people interact with your content on social media. Likes, comments, shares, saves, and clicks all count as engagement. High engagement signals to the platform (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) that your content is worth showing to more people. For tradies, engagement often means posting the kind of content people want to share - like before-and-after photos, helpful tips, or relatable tradie humour.
How It Works
- 1 Social media algorithms prioritise content that gets engagement
- 2 More engagement = your posts get shown to more people (including non-followers)
- 3 Comments and shares are weighted more heavily than likes
- 4 Consistent, valuable content builds an engaged community over time
Tips for Tradies
- Post content people want to share: before/after photos, money-saving tips, tradie humour
- Ask questions in your captions - "Seen this before?" gets more comments than "Great work today"
- Reply to every comment - engagement is a two-way street
